Latest figures from the Office of National Statistics (ONS) show unemployment continues to rise, indicating many will continue to feel financial strain.

From September to November 2010 the unemployment rate was 7.9 percent with 2.5 million people unemployed.

The number of people claiming Jobseeker’s allowance was 1.46 million while there were 9.37 million inactive people aged from 16-64 years old.

Total pay was shown to experience a slight rise of 2.1 percent on the year earlier, and regular pay excluding bonuses rose by 2.3 percent. This however, is still not in line with inflation.

Younger workers are struggling the most as the ONS revealed the 16-24 year-old group have experienced a rise in unemployment to 951,000 out of work. This is the highest figure since records began in 1992.
