UK Staycations More Popular Than Ever
Before the era of cheap air travel, the idea of a 'staycation' was a common feature in the lives of most British families.

Today, there are many factors that are coming into play to tip the balance once again, one being the inconvenience and long waiting times associated with contemporary air travel.
The other is the cost of travelling abroad, which has just been brought into sharper focus by the falling value of the pound against the euro and dollar.
With the cost of foreign holidays on an upward trend, the staycation is becoming increasingly popular.
In a sign of the times, a recent survey estimated that almost 40% of British holidaymakers have chosen to take a break at home rather than abroad since the beginning of the financial crisis.
The research, conducted by HolidayCottages.co.uk, found that a UK staycation could save a family of four up to 81% as opposed to going abroad.
In what will come as welcome news for the British tourism industry, the study highlighted that a family of four living in Birmingham could save more than £2200 by holidaying in Cornwall instead of going to Lanzarote.
James Morris, Managing Director at HolidayCottages.co.uk said: “Our research shows Brits really can save significant amounts of money by exploring the best of the British rather than heading abroad.
“The South West is one of many thriving holiday hot spots across the UK and recently featured in Tripadvisor’s Traveller’s Choice Top 25 Beaches in Europe, with Rhossili Bay in South Wales named third and beaches in Devon, Dorset and Cornwall all ranking highly.”
If you are not willing to give up your foreign holiday, there is a way to make an overseas getaway that bit cheaper. Buying your travel money in advance is the best way to avoid expensive airport rates and can help keep overall holiday costs to a minimum.
