Consumers are feeling more optimistic about their finances going into the New Year recent research reveals.

A survey by Equifax showed 42 percent said they felt more optimistic about their current financial situation compared to how they did going into 2010.

Women were shown to feel less optimistic however than they did last year, with just over a third feeling positive about the future compared to 45.5 percent of men who feel positive going into 2011.

The statistics revealed nearly half of women are worried about their job security compared to just over a third of men.

If you are not happy about your finances try to budget your outgoings with a pay as you go card.

Men are more hopeful than women of a pay rise in 2011, with 37.9 percent thinking it may happen compared to 25.8 percent of women.

Research by Equifax earlier in the year showed the nation is trying to get on top of their finances as nearly a third who sought credit reports said they did so to better manage their finances.

A further 12 percent of respondents said they had obtained a copy of their credit history because they had applied for credit and it had been declined.

Budget with a Pay as you Go Card

If you are not happy about your finances going into the New Year now is a good time to take a look at your monthly outgoings and work out a budget.

Once you have achieved this you can load a prepaid credit card with the funds and use it to make your daily purchases.

The card does not allow the user to spend more than is on the card, and essentially prevents the card user from overspending on their budget.
