Single for Valentine’s Day? Escaping the curse of Cupid

Published on 1 January 1970 by Raffick Marday

Singletons, brace yourselves – Valentine’s Day is just two days away.

Overspending on holidayWhile 14 February is one of the most special days of the years for loved-up couples, it can be downright depressing if you’re not in a relationship.

But it doesn’t have to be this way! Here are some top tips on how to get through Valentine’s Day 2013.

Don’t spend it alone

Rather than enjoying the company of two men simultaneously (Ben & Jerry...) in front of the TV Bridget Jones style, invite some single friends over for a cosy night in – and remember to enforce a strict ‘no rom-com’ policy!

Paint the town red

If you don’t fancy a night in, get yourself out there! The worst thing you can do is mope – especially if you’ve just come out of a serious relationship.

By forcing yourself to go out and surrounding yourself with your favourite people, you will automatically feel better.

Feel fabulous

If your friends aren’t around, or if you don’t feel like having company, fear not: you can also make this work to your advantage.

Take some time out to spend some quality time out with number one – yourself! Have a long, luxurious soak in a divinely scented bubble bath, get out the face packs and have a pamper evening.

Or keep things simple and cosy up onto the sofa with a good film and a take-away – perfection!

Get away from it all

Alternatively, go all out and flee the country! If you can’t bear the thought of seeing happy couples every which way, make a bolt for it (but avoid Paris like the plague).

Booking a last minute break is exciting and a huge adrenaline rush, not to mention an excellent way to banish those winter blues.

It can also save you money, since operators are desperate to sell off the last few seats. Remembering to buy your travel money before you arrive at the airport can also keep costs down!
