Santa flies his sleigh into Heathrow to kick off the festive fun
In what is the airport’s most elaborate festive event to date, a Secret Santa has been stationed in Heathrow Airport, where he is giving out gifts to outbound travellers.
compare travel cardsChristmas has come early for a number of travellers, as Santa is busy handing out gifts such as iPads, designer watches and bottles of fragrance.
The unexpected surprises for the 4.3 million passengers travelling through Heathrow on the run-up to Christmas will make their journey “even more memorable”.
This is according to a statement from Heathrow Airport, which said that Santa’s arrival marks the beginning of 24 days of gift-giving.
Apple iPads are just one of the gifts being given away as the holiday season gets underway. Six lucky passengers, chosen at random, have already received the expensive device so that they are able to keep in touch with loved ones throughout the duration of their travels.
Other presents include goods from the likes of Jimmy Choo, Ted Baker, Sunglasses Hut, Hackett and Caviar House.
‘His and hers’ designer watches, worth £5,000, and Oakley winter survival kits for those heading to the slopes also account for some of the spontaneous giveaways.
In addition to appearances and generous gift giveaways from Santa, between December 14 and 23 there will be carol singers in all terminals and chocolate treats and arts and craft sessions for children.
Carol Stokes, head of passenger experience at Heathrow, said: “The Christmas holidays are an exciting time for Heathrow and for the many families, friends and couples making the most of the festive break.”
Indeed, some 4.3 million passengers are expected to travel through the airport during this period, with the most departures falling on Friday 21 December.
As 105,000 people filter their way through the terminal on this day to jet off for Christmas, Santa will be taking gift requests in his grotto and elves will be handing out mince pies and 100 bottles of fragrance from World Duty Free.
