Barclaycard launches major reward scheme

Barclaycard's announced it's launching a new rewards scheme for more than eight million cardholders. Barclaycard Freedom will enable cardholders to earn rewards in shops, restaurants and online retailers across the UK, without having to do anything to join. Customers will generally get 1 per cent of their transaction back in 'Reward Money' when they use their credit card in participating outlets. One of the UK's largest credit card companies has launched a new rewards programme. Barclaycard is hoping its Freedom scheme will encourage new and existing customers to use their cards more often. Shoppers will now be able to earn a standard one per cent cashback on their purchases funded by their credit card using 'Reward Money'. A message at the till will tell them the value of their reward. Barclaycard and Orange have joined forces to create a wave-and-pay contactless credit card. Customers only need to hold the card close to a contactless reader, which are making their way into more and more stores, to pay for items of £10 or under. Barclaycard reduces APR on SimplicityBarclaycard has reduced the annual percentage rate (APR) on its Simplicity credit card. It has been put down to 6.8 per cent for both balance transfers and purchases. Base Rate holds firm at 0.5% as mortgage rates drop

Despite the 0.5% base rate having an adverse effect on the hopes of savers throughout Britain, new analysis found that those able to secure a mortgage can access significantly better deals now than when the base rate first fell to 0.5%. Basic Costs a Burden for Families with Children

Families are struggling to make ends meet, a new report reveals, as 20 percent need to earn 20 percent more than they did last year to achieve an acceptable living standard. The study was conducted by the Joseph Rowntree Foundation, and highlighted the disparity between earnings and the basic cost of living. Credit card customers across the UK with good credit histories are being left out in the cold. That's according to the Daily Mirror, which claims that lenders have hiked up rates to make as much money from customers as possible ahead of rule changes later in the year.
