Online credit card payments to be safer
Consumers worried about online credit card fraud could save themselves stress by buying a new gadget for their computer.
The SmartSwipe plugs into a USB port and works just like a swipe machine at a checkout till – all you need to do is enter the three-digit security number on the back of your credit card.
Available from gadget website Firebox, the device will help protect people's card details from hackers who use software which records what keys you press, like when you manually type in your credit card number when buying online.
Once the card is swiped, the information is encrypted before it even reaches the computer, meaning that your details won't be broadcasted.
On a more innocent note, it also saves you from having to type in your 16-digit credit card number every time you want to buy something.
