Up to 14 million UK adults regularly use credit cards, according to research.

And using credit cards to make online purchases is the most popular form of spending for 56 per cent of consumers.

But not all consumers consider paying with their cards as their only option, with many using their plastic to take advantage of things such as air miles .

With many cards offering reward point schemes a quarter of holders said that they use their cards just to accumulate the bonuses.

Just over one in ten said they use their cards for cashback and zero per cent interest rates on their purchases.

However there are warnings to customer to think before using the plastic in all situations such as on holiday or they might face unexpected charges on their return.
