Credit cards changes proposed by parties

Published on 1 January 1970 by Raffick Marday

Labour and the Conservatives have both come out with plans to make credit cards fairer for the consumer.

The government have already announced a series of measures, including giving buyers the chance to pay off their most expensive card debts first and better repayment plans for new customers.

They also propose that customers can reject any credit card limit increase within 60 days to avoid taking on more debt.

The Conservatives plan to cap the rates available on store cards and make sure that credit card bills contain clearer information.

An alternative to having to worry about credit card bills is to get a prepaid card instead. These can be used in much the same way, but you can only spend as much money as you load up onto it.
