Civil servants spend £1bn on credit cards
High-ranking public servants spent close to £1bn on government credit cards in 2009, it has been revealed.
The card scheme is run by government agency Buying Solutions and their figures show a 1,000 per cent rise in spending since 2002.
Back then, the monthly bill was around £20m, whereas last year the figure was closer to £80m per month. Matthew Elliott, chief executive of the Taxpayers' Alliance says that the credit card bill is a "terrifying sum."
If you have problems with running up bills on credit cards too, you might want to consider a prepaid card. These pay-as-you-go cards allow you to load them up with a set amount of money which you can use to buy anything until it runs out.
