With Christmas a mere 94 days away, Ryanair have been (almost) as busy as Santa’s elves, taking a record number of advance bookings for their festive flights.

ryanair-cash-passport-cardFollowing incredibly high numbers of advance bookings since the launch of its winter schedules last month, Ryanair has decided to provide an extra 350,000 seats on over 2,000 ‘Christmas’ flights across 300 different routes.

And to celebrate this, the low-cost airline plans to launch a 100,000 seat sale with prices for starting from just €16 for those booking travel across Europe between Monday and Thursday (inclusive) in October and November.

However, these are only available to book until midnight on Monday 24 September – so those who are looking for a cheap winter holiday are advised to act fast!

Fully aware that the winter holiday is perceived as a family affair, the budget airline has confirmed its ‘flying home for Christmas’ routes to Germany, Italy, Lithuania and Poland – all of which are filling up fast.

Bookings for snow and ski holidays have also been very high, with swarms of people planning on heading to the slopes this winter. Ryanair have accordingly increased the number of return flights to Grenoble, Salzburg and Turin over Christmas and New Year.

An equally high amount of Brits are looking to escape the cold this Christmas, with more families than ever booking sunny holidays in the Canary Islands.

Historic cities such as Warsaw and Budapest are also proving favourites with winter travellers.

Anyone thinking about travelling abroad this winter may wish to consider taking a prepaid card with them. While Ryanair does have its own version, the Ryanair Cash Passport, there are a wide range of cards from which to choose.

Prepaid cards are particularly useful for holidays. People are generally more inclined to overspend while away from home, which can have a severe impact on your finances.

Prepaid cards work like credit cards, but you can’t spend more than you load onto them. There are dozens of these on the market, so remember to compare the exchange rate and fees of different prepaid cards before making a decision.
