British Holidaymakers Stay Put At Their Resort
A new survey has revealed that over half of British holidaymakers choose to stay in a resort when they take a break overseas as opposed to just over two fifths who like to book into a hotel.
prepaid cardsThe research by MyVoucherCodes.co.uk asked 1,224 people about their holiday preferences and found that the lure of a resort holiday where food, pools and private beaches can all come as part of the package is the top of the list.
Resorts were also favoured over rental apartment, which less than a third of British holidaymakers opted for, and camping, which was the choice of fewer than one in five.
The research also revealed that resorts are so well equipped that many of those who go down the popular resort route never explore further afield.
Chairman of MyVoucherCodes.co.uk Mark Pearson commented: “Travel agencies now offer such a large variety of holiday packages that you can basically find everything you need without even leaving your resort.”
13% of the people polled said the reason they stayed within the perimeters of their chosen resort was because they felt ‘unsafe’ outside of it.
“I guess wherever you go you will need to stay aware of the ‘unsafe’ places but it’s a shame so many people miss out on the culture of the country they’re in simply because they don’t want to leave their resort,” Mr Pearson continued.
However it isn’t just safety concerns that lead to this ‘stay at home’ attitude whilst on holiday, with 18% of the respondents saying that they didn’t want to spend more money.
The survey found that the resorts most likely to fulfill every need were those in countries such as Mexico, The Maldives, Tunisia and the ever popular Spain.
Mr Pearson added: “With entertainment, restaurants, spas, gyms and sometimes even private beaches, every resort is tailored for people’s needs whether you’re a family, a couple or amongst friends who want to have fun.”
