ATMs kept busy over bank holiday
Britons really hit the plastic over the bank holiday weekend, with over £1.5bn (£1.54bn) being withdrawn from LINK cash machines across the country.
This was over £100m (£133m) more than was taken out last May Day bank holiday.
Friday was the busiest day, with nearly £600m (£590m) being withdrawn by people with credit cards and debit cards.
It also set a new record for the busiest ever day for LINK ATMs, beating the previous record of £565m set on Christmas Eve last year.
The most hectic hour last Friday was between noon and 1pm, when over 1.1m transactions took place across Britain.
