American Express announce new credit card deals
American Express has announced a range of special offers to celebrate the launch of Avios – the new reward scheme replacing Airmiles.
The offers are available to new and existing American Express customers who take out the American Express British Airways Classic Card.
From 17th November until 29th February 2012, new customers who take out the credit card will receive 9,000 Avios points if they spend £1,000 in the first three months of card membership.
This is enough to pay for a return flight to zone one destinations, including Paris, Nice and Berlin.
Existing card members will also benefit from the launch of Avios. From the start of December until 29 February 2012, card members will earn double Avios points when they buy British Airways flights or holidays.
All American Express British Airways card members will also get discounts on short haul flights to zones one to three if they pay with Avios.
Card members will pay the flight cost in Avios points, plus a flat rate of £27 for a Euro Traveller ticket or £34 for a Club Europe ticket, including taxes and airport charges.
Card members will also be able redeem points for car hire from Avis, as well as hotel stays with over 10,000 hotels worldwide – including Accor, Hilton, and Intercontinental.
As travelling abroad remains popular, Britons are employing a range of methods to save money while on holiday.
These include using prepaid travel cards and euro currency travel cards to save money on balance transfers and cash withdrawal in foreign countries.
For people travelling in Europe, which is still the destination of choice with UK travellers, cards such as the Moneybookers Card, the Virgin Euro Card, and the Breadfx Euro Card are popular choices.
For free cash withdrawals while away, the Mastercard prepaid card and the Travelex Cash Passport Dollar Card are best.
