virgin money card

The Virgin Travel money card is a new Visa card and  the new range of prepaid cards launched by Virgin Money. You can choose from a Virgin Visa US Dollar card for when you travel in the USA or a Virgin Visa Euro card for travel in the 16 European countries that have the Euro.

Here’s how a Virgin Travel Money card works:

Applying for a Virgin travel money card
You apply for the card online, choosing a US dollar card or a euro card which is free of charge and load it from your debit or credit card. The minimum amount to load is £100 min. The amount of US Dollars or Euros you’ll get for your payment is calculated immediately and will be shown on-screen.

Receiving your Virgin travel money card
You’ll get your card within 7 days. Virgin will send you a spare, emergency card at the same time. Call us to activate your main card and find out your PIN.

Before you travel
Check you’ve enough money on the card and top it up if needed – the money will go on the card immediately, there’s no waiting time. Pop your main card in your wallet. Take your emergency card with you too, just in case – but make sure you keep it separate to your main card.

Using your card abroad
Simply use your card like you would use a credit/debit card – wherever they accept Visa. You can also use it to withdraw money from ATMs.**

Arriving home
Keep your cards safe as they don’t expire for 2 years so they’ll be ready for next time. That’s all there is to it. There’s no bill to pay at the end of the month and no commission fees.

*There’s no charge to load your card using a debit card. With a credit card there is a fee of 2.5%.

**ATM withdrawal fee in card currency is $2/€1.50.

What else you need to know Virgin travel money card

When you apply for a card Virgin Money are legally obliged to verify your identity. If we are unable to do this we may need you to send us some documents to confirm your identity. Without the identity check the maximum balance you will be able to have on the card is $2,500/€2,500.

The cards are easy to top-up and Virgin cardholders can get discounts from a range of Virgin companies including £20 credit for each Virgin Media cable service, 10% off Virgin pay as you go mobile phones, up to 20% off Virgin Experiences, 10% off Virgin Wines, 20% off Virgin Travel Insurance, £70 e-Gift Card when you take Virgin Life Insurance, 30% off Virgin Books and much more.
