The Euro FairFX card offers a better rate than buying currency and is also safer than transporting bank notes abroad.

The rate is however around 1.75% less favourable than the ‘perfect’ rate that you can see at http://www.visaeurope.com/en/cardholders/exchange_rates.aspx on top of which you then pay an additional premium for making cash withdrawals

If using it as a credit card it is important not to let restaurants and car hire firms pre-swipe the card, otherwise you may find it impossible to access the card’s funds, because the swiping process has reserved them.

The card will also not work with systems that do not seek authorisation, such as those utilised on the French motorway toll booths.

I used my card to transport 3000 Euros to Spain this summer and on balance I was pleased with the outcome. I did however bring the card home empty and will be reviewing my options before next year’s vacation.

I used a Euro card last year in Crete. I think it is a brilliant idea. My only concern was the fact that you are not required to enter your pin number in restaurants etc, although pin number was used in supermarkets and shops. Can be a big worry if you did lose or if it was stolen. purchases can just be signed for, in certain places. Also the fact that you cannot get a balance of your funds on ATM machines. To do this you need to have access to the internet.

the euro Fairfx card lived up to my expectations. the Mastercard was easier to use than travellers cheques without the hassle of carrying my passport around. the euro card is a brilliant idea
