Topic: Bank Accounts charging a monthly fee

With nearly all high street banks are charging a premium monthly fee to get more from your bank.

Do you think this is right?

What are your thoughts and comments on being charged a monthly fee?

Does this really compensate from banks reducing their charges?

Foreign Exchange brokers had been able to cover bank recieving charges on overseas payments for clients. Through a new EU directive brokers are now unable to offer this on all transactions. For more information please see the following:

The PSD is often mentioned in the same breath as the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA) but the two are in fact separate, because SEPA began as a voluntary initiative of the European banking industry. The industry created a consortium, the European Payments Council, to define how SEPA would work in practice.

Just to play devil's advocate, i say it's not right for banks to charge. They charge people high fees on other things like overdraft, check image requests, etc. It should remain free since they are already making money off the amounts deposited. We're basically giving them money to hold our money. I mean come on, savings accounts yield .05% these days and they still have the audacity to charge a monthly fee. So why do bank issued cards have high aprs and now those are also showing annual fees. Nickle and dime, nickle and dime.
