As lending guidelines get stricter, an increasing amount of people are looking to check their credit ratings online.
Despite this being good news for the large credit checking companies like Experian and Equifax who supply the information, other bodies are recommending people to make sure their credit rating is in order before applying for mortgages, credit cards or mobile phone contracts.
If you do have a poor credit rating a great way to build it up is with a credit builder prepaid card.
It works by paying off a small monthly fee with the card, which is considered a loan.
Once this is paid off and you have satisfied the loan, it will be reported to two Credit Reference Agencies, your credit history will be adapted accordingly.
