Students get finance advice in Money Week
Young people are getting help to take control of their bank accounts and credit cards under a new training scheme.
The National Skills Academy Financial Services is promoting 'Money Week' at 75 further education colleges across the country, aimed at encouraging students to be more aware of their finances in order to get a better deal.
Younger people have been identified as one of the groups most at risk from many of today's financial malaises – from incurring unfair bank charges for going overdrawn to piling up credit card debt.
NSAFS boss Sylvia Perrins stressed the importance of educational institutions like colleges in promoting financial awareness.
Money Week has government support, as part of the Financial Services Authority's National Strategy for Financial Capability.
