The article cites recent reports that consumers, particularly those in their late teens and early twenties, are looking to take greater control of their finances.

It also says that moves by businesses to offer their customers more ways to pay is also boosting the popularity of the cards.

Meanwhile industry experts have claimed that the same trend is responsible for the increasing popularity of debit cards, which have become the most popular card of choice for the first time.
