The Office of Fair Trading is asking credit card holders to ignore claims their debt can be written off using loopholes in the law.

It follows a case at the High Court, which ruled lenders do not need to produce the original claim agreement if asked, just the correct information.

The OFT have now issued draft guidance, which asks customers to pay off loan and credit card debts they have legitimately built up rather than trying to find a way out of them.

That's despite adverts by many claims management companies, which told borrowers they could get the debt eliminated if they paid an upfront fee.

The watchdog will issue final guidance on consumers' rights in these circumstances in April.ADNFCR-2939-ID-19586598-ADNFCR
