Mobile phones are for one in four Brits something they cannot live without new research discloses.

The research revealed 75 percent of British adults now use their phone for more than just making calls indicating the new craze of multimedia and social networking, Lloyds TSB showed.
Those who use these features place a higher value on their mobile, with over half using the cameras; around 50 percent the alarm clock; a third use it as a calendar; one in five uses the MP3 player function; 19 percent email, and 10 percent use the Satellite Navigation system.
“It is clear that we are all relying more and more on our mobile phones, and investing more money in them as a result,” said Jatin Patel, Lloyds TSB personal current account director.
“Insuring a mobile phone as part of an added value bank account is one of the simplest and most cost effective ways of ensuring that if you are unlucky enough to lose your phone; it will be replaced with minimal hassle.”
A third of people admit to having at some point either lost, damaged or had their mobile phone stolen and the average value of a phone is just under £85, though men spend more than women.
However, though many rely on their phones for more than staying in touch, nine out of ten mobile users do not have any insurance for it as three out four feel it is not worthwhile and two thirds are not prepared to pay for it.
