Look out for debit card fees at World Cup
British travellers have been warned about being stung for fees on debit cards whilst visiting South Africa for the World Cup.

The average Brit is expected to spend around £2,700 in South Africa, with more than £2,000 (£2,025) of it being drawn out from cash machines there, due to limits on how much currency can be taken into the country.

However, with the handling and foreign exchange fees, this could lead to nearly £100 (£86) being spent unnecessarily on charges.

Nici Audhlam-Gardiner of Santander recommends that travellers look for a debit card which offers free ATM access and no transaction charges wherever they are in the world.

The bank also warns people to be careful when using cash machines in South Africa, and don’t accept offers from strangers to 'help' you with ATM transactions.ADNFCR-2939-ID-19797991-ADNFCR
