Nationwide offer fraud protection
Building society Nationwide is offering its customers new levels of protection, should they become victims of fraud.
The building society also plans to make banking easier for its customers, through regular account updates and help if they accidently become overdrawn.
As Christmas approaches, many people will be either shopping online or in stores, leaving themselves vulnerable to fraud.
Nationwide’s FlexAccount customers can now benefit from its Fraud Protection Guarantee. This ensures that if a customer is a victim of fraud, Nationwide will ensure the money lost is returned to their bank account immediately.
“Nationwide is putting in place a range of measures aimed at ensuring our customers won't be left out of pocket if they are an innocent victim of fraud,” said Graham Pilkington, Nationwide's director of banking.
The building society will also refund overdraft charges if a customer accidently goes overdrawn. If it is the customers first time, the charges will be immediately refunded into their account.
Other measures to help customers during the hectic Christmas period include free balance and activity updates by text, new online money management tools, and 24 hour banking – either online or over the phone.
Mr Pilkington added: "Our members lead busy lives and we know it's not always possible to keep a constant eye on their finances. The introduction of text alerts means that customers can feel safe in the knowledge that should they near their limit they will be notified.
“Nationwide has one of the highest levels of current account service satisfaction on the high street and these latest initiatives show Nationwide is really on our members' side.”
It was revealed recently that female shoppers are at a higher risk of online credit card fraud.
Research from the National Fraud Authority found that only 8% of women aged 26-35 protect their computer with up-to-date anti-virus software.
