AA Reward Plus credit card makes its mark

August 25, 2011

Given the current rise in petrol prices, AA insurance has launched the AA Reward Plus card. The card offers 3% cashback on fuel to all its clients.

According to The AA financial services, aside from returning a 3% cashback on fuel, the card also offers 0.5% on all other card purchases, with a generous upper limit of £2,000 on fuel purchases every year. Once this limit is reached, the card continues to earn 0.5% on fuel spends.

As The AA explain, the AA Reward Plus card works by earning points that can be redeemed for cash, retail vouchers or AA products and services including membership and insurance.

The credit card in detail

Specifically, the card earns three points for each £1 spent on fuel and 1 point for every £2 on all other purchases. After £2,000 has been spent on fuel before the first anniversary of the card being taken out, 1 point is earned for every £2 spent, says The AA.

Additionally, reward points can also be earned at most fuel stations in continental Europe. Afterwards, those points can be redeemed for cash back or items chosen from an online retail catalogue, including AA products and services.

"This is where a cashback credit card really can help make difference in the weekly cost of filling the tank," says Mark Huggins, director of AA Financial Services.

"We hope that lower wholesale prices will soon be reflected at the pumps too, which will help cash-strapped consumers get a few more miles for their pound," he added.

The card is available to AA members applying online and quoting their membership number. Customers without membership can take out breakdown cover and apply for the credit card to benefit from the cashback scheme.
