Figures from Boots, the leading retailer, show that a third of their ‘Advantage Card’ customers have a sufficient amount on their store cards to qualify for a £5 treat. Over a thousand Boots customers have over £260 on their loyalty cards.
The free in-store card allows customers to collect points every time they spend at the cosmetics and chemist company. While some people choose to hoard points and gift vouchers for special occasions, others have forgotten that they own them and the additional credit in their pockets.

Boots are not the only retailer offering a reward scheme card based on points and spending. Tesco Clubcard points can also be used to secure vouchers and money off your next shop. The vouchers can be used towards days out, restaurants, and ‘reward’ items which can be ordered in advance.
A recent study by Subway found that Brits are sitting on £5.2 billion worth of unclaimed loyalty card points. The typical adult owns at least three store loyalty cards with an average of £37 worth of goods across them.
It’s not just loyalty cards which Brits have forgotten about either. According to the British Bankers Association (BBA) there is between £250 million and £300 million sitting in dormant bank and building societies.
Account balances that cannot be traced are given to the Government to fund community projects. However, as the bank account is your property you can reclaim it any time you wish.
