Music fans are being encouraged to buy their festival tickets for the summer on credit cards, in case they fall victim to scam websites.
The Society of Ticket Agents and Retailers (STAR) has warned people wanting to buy tickets for big music events that cyber criminals are poised ready to relieve them of their cash.
“Every year, opportunistic websites pop up offering tickets for sold out events at extortionate prices,” said Jonathan Brown, secretary of STAR.
However, if items worth over £100 are bought on credit cards, the consumer is offered protection under Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act.
To avoid being caught on in the first place, STAR advise festival-goers to check that a website is mentioned via official channels.
